About
Backed by experiences at the United Nations (Panama), the European Union (Ecuador & Angola) and Brazil's Regional Development Ministry, SEBASTIEN WILLEMART contributed to WWF-Belgium's advocacy strategy and to two World Water Development Reports led by UNESCO. He is a dynamic professional with a passion for sound public policy and project planning.
His dedication to the water sector and the fight against climate change led me to intervene in international forums such as the World Water Forum and multiple UNFCCC COPs. He has been the Belgian Representative of the World Youth Parliament for Water, a group of professionals active in more than 70 countries, working with advocacy towards the achievement of universal access to water and sanitation.
He has a Master’s degree in Economics of Planning and Local Development at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He also studied Management of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO - among other courses attended in the field of international development and sustainability.
He is a political scientist graduated from Maastricht University. After an internship at the Delegation of the European Commission in Ecuador, he undertook an International Master’s degree in Sustainable Territorial Development taught jointly by the universities of Padova, KU Leuven, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Catholic University Dom Bosco.
He participated to the preparation meeting of the World Water Forum while interning at the Brasilian Ministry of National Integration. Later, he was involved with the formulation of Central America’s Integral Risk Management Policy when working at the United Nations Regional Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. Working at the Consulate General of Belgium he cooperated with the Belgian Chamber of Commerce in Brazil and conducted market analysis following national infrastructure privatization scheme.
He was invited as a guest speaker to share his findings at the North American Water Conference at Guadalajara University and at FLACSO’s 4th Latinoamerican Congres of Social Science, at Salamanca University. His research interests include European Law, International Relations, Sustainable Development, Water Management and Participative Governance. He speaks French, English, Spanish , Portugues, Italian and Dutch.
