Markus Palenberg, Managing Director, Institute for Development Strategy

About

Hi, I'm founder and manager of the Institute for Development Strategy (IfDS).

We are an independent research institute based in Munich (Germany), working in international development. Our goal is to help making international development more effective and efficient. We do this in three mutually reinforcing ways:

circle

We evaluate development programs in order to generate empirical evidence on what causes high or low performance and improve program performance through constructive recommendations and dissemination of lessons learnt.

We research and develop evaluation methodology to improve the analytic power of tools for strategic planning and evaluation and disseminate guidance for implementers, evaluators, evaluation units and policy-makers.

We advise those who design and implement development programs to improve program strategy and structure and increase implementation performance based on our own analysis and our evaluation and research results.

In our evaluation and advisory work, we focus on Global and Regional Programs, a type of intervention that usually exhibits a high degree of strategic and structural complexity and is often marked by long causal and temporal distances between activities and intended effects.
