About

Kuwait Water Association (KWA) was established in accordance with the Ministerial Decree No. (87) in the year of 2012 to carry out the responsibility of protecting water resources through scientific advancement projects and awareness in water and water-energy relationship.

The association aims to maintain water-energy conservation, provide water-energy services and conduct developmental projects as well as specialized research projects that will contribute in sustainable practices related to water and energy.

KWA proudly achieved many of its objectives, by converting substantive plans into concrete projects. All activities based on various international standards related to the field of water and energy. Moreover, KWA has a proven success in the water-energy awareness and implementation sustainability. KWA working to build a bridge of collaborative efforts between the association, governmental organizations, and the local community.

KWA's main objective is to raise awareness among individuals and institutions in the State of Kuwait about water and energy sustainable practices, aligned with the international polices and best practices. KWA is currently developing digital educational resources that can be accessible locally and internationally. KWA has also tailored methods to conserve and sustainably consume water-energy, as well as regulate the exposure of pollutants to water supply, which required in the public and private sectors in Kuwait. KWA provides consultation on water-energy projects in partnership with public and private sector organizations, and support the government’s effort in water-energy conservation and sustainable development.

 

Other objectives of the KWA include but not limited to:

· Meet the demand of water in Kuwait in all aspects and areas in sustainable manner.

· Play a vital role in the preservation of water resources and preventing its wastage.

· Contribute significantly in supporting individual, organizational, and governmental awareness about water issues.

· Seek to build a strong and remarkable reputation for the activities conducted by KWA on local and international level.

· Be a regional leader in the efficient use of resources and sustainable development.

 

KWA has a remarkable partnerships and agreements with key ministries in Kuwait, with several agreements signed with the Ministry of Electricity and Water and with the Ministry of Education. KWA has worked hand in hand with the legislative authorities, specifically the House of the National Assembly of Kuwait to develop the current water laws and regulations.

KWA successfully obtained the accreditation as an observer to the governing body of UN Environment, which was renamed as the United Nations Environment Assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme by the General Assembly Resolution 67/251 of 13 March 2013. KWA will be assigned as an observer to all public meetings and sessions of the United Nations Environment Assembly and its subsidiaries.

As an accredited organization, KWA is required to submit a report of its activities to UN Environment every four years from the date of accreditation. This report known as quadrennial report submitted to the Secretariat of Governing Bodies.

In 2016, KWA won Ford International Award organized in Dubai for its study entitled: “Measuring Water Consumption in Educational Facilities” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

In 2017, KWA has received an Award from ISESCO after winning the best practice project implemented in 13 schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Kuwait. The Award called Saudi Award for Environmental Management of Islamic Countries. The ceremony of granting the award was under His Majesty Mohammad VI the King of Morocco at the ISESCO Headquarters in Rabat.
